Boarding + Board & Train — Quadra Island

Real-world training and enriched boarding on our private 80-acre waterfront property.

Board & Train

Real-world training on our private 80-acre waterfront property.

Dogs train daily through structured obedience lessons, field trips to town to work on neutrality and manners in public, socialization with Aviva’s own dogs and other boarding dogs, and intentional behaviour work. They also receive daily mental and physical enrichment — hikes, chew toys, play time, exploring at our secluded beach, and lots of love and attention from Aviva.

  • Maximum 5 dogs at a time
  • No minimum stay required — for meaningful, lasting behaviour change, we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks
  • Most dogs stay 3–4 weeks

What Makes This Program Different

This board & train program is designed to create meaningful behaviour change through immersion, structure, and consistency. Rather than short training sessions once a week, your dog lives and trains with a trainer daily, practicing new skills in real-life environments.

  • Forest trails and open spaces for recall training

  • Structured hikes and daily exercise

  • Calm, structured rest in a spacious indoor kennel

  • Socialization with other dogs when appropriate

Because we accept a maximum of five dogs at a time, each dog gets individualized attention and a training plan built around them — not a one-size-fits-all program.

Living & Care Environment

Every dog stays in our climate-controlled training building beside our home, in their own spacious indoor kennel — a calm, secure space to rest and decompress between sessions. Outside of rest, dogs are out with Aviva daily training, exercising, and socializing. No dog spends the day sitting in a kennel.

Outside of rest periods and overnight sleep, dogs are out with Aviva daily for:

  • Training sessions

  • Exercise and hikes

  • Enrichment and play

  • Appropriate social exposure

No dog spends the day sitting in a kennel. Rest is peaceful and structured, but the program is highly interactive and immersive.

A Typical Day

  • Structured exercise and nature/beach walks

  • Obedience and behaviour training sessions

  • Recall and leash skills practice

  • Field trips to town to practice skills in public

  • Calm behaviour and manners training

  • Rest periods in a spacious indoor kennel that reinforce regulation and relaxation

Common Training Goals

This program can address a variety of training and behaviour challenges, including:

  • Reactivity

  • Loose leash walking

  • Reliable recall

  • Jumping on people

  • Overstimulation

  • Social skills around other dogs

  • Resource guarding

More complex behaviour challenges may benefit from a longer stay.

Going Home

At the end of your dog's stay, we run an extensive owner transfer session covering commands, handling techniques, and the structure needed at home — followed by two virtual follow-up sessions to keep things consistent. Your consistency at home is essential to long-term success.

Investment — Board & Train

$200/day, including daily training, exercise, enrichment, and care.

Example: a 3-week stay (21 days) = 21 × $200 = $4,200

Please note: Pricing may vary by length of stay, behaviour goals, and training intensity required.

Because this program is limited to five dogs at a time, spaces often book several weeks to months in advance.

Boarding — With a Trainer, Not a Kennel

Most boarding means a kennel and a walk. Ours means your dog spends the day on a private 80-acre waterfront property — hiking, playing at the beach, socializing, and getting hands-on attention from a professional trainer, all day, every day.

Whats included

  • Daily hikes and exercise across 80 acres of forest and trail

  • Time at our private, secluded beach

  • Socialization and play, matched to your dog's temperament

  • Hands-on, attentive care from Aviva throughout the day — not passive supervision

  • A spacious indoor kennel for calm, comfortable overnight rest

This isn’t a formal training curriculum — but because your dog is with a trainer all day, they still get calm handling, clear boundaries, and structure baked into everything we do. You’re not choosing between “loved” and “well-managed.” You get both.

Investment — Boarding

Boarding Rate: $100/night

Example: a 3-week stay (21 nights) = 21 × $100 = $2,100

Please note: Because our board & train program is limited to five dogs at a time and requires focused attention, board & train clients are given priority booking. Boarding-only stays are accepted as space allows, so we recommend reaching out as early as possible to check availability.

Check-In & Check-Out

Check-in: any time after 1:00 PM
Check-out: any time before 1:00 PM

An earlier or later check-in/check-out is available for an additional $15/hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does my dog need to stay?

No minimum stay required. For meaningful, lasting behaviour change, we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks. Boarding-only stays can be any length.

  • Will my dog be kenneled all day?

No. Rest periods are structured, but dogs spend most of the day training, exercising, or playing outdoors.

  • Will my dog be around other dogs, cats, or children?

Only if it’s appropriate and safe. Social exposure is always intentional and based on your dog’s temperament — if you’d prefer your dog stay separate from children or other dogs, that’s completely fine. If your dog is a total softie and safe around both, they can be fully integrated into our home.

  • Do you guarantee results?

No trainer can ethically guarantee behaviour outcomes. What I do guarantee: professional handling, structured daily care, a safe and loving experience for your dog, and clear communication with you. Long-term success also depends on genetics, history, and consistency at home.
