Immersive Board & Train on Quadra Island

Real-world training on our private 80-acre waterfront property.

Dogs train daily through structured obedience lessons, field trips to town to work on neutrality and manners in public, socialization with Aviva’s own dogs and other boarding dogs, and intentional behaviour work. They also receive daily mental and physical enrichment — hikes, chew toys, play time, exploring at our secluded beach, and lots of love and attention from Aviva.

  • Maximum 5 dogs at a time
  • No minimum stay required — for meaningful, lasting behaviour change, we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks
  • Most dogs stay 3–4 weeks

What Makes This Program Different

This board & train program is designed to create meaningful behaviour change through immersion, structure, and consistency.

Rather than short training sessions once per week, your dog lives and trains with a trainer, daily, while practicing new skills in real-life environments.

Our property provides the ideal setting for training and enrichment, including:

  • Forest trails and open spaces for recall training

  • Structured hikes and daily exercise

  • Calm, structured rest in a spacious indoor kennel

  • Socialization with other dogs when appropriate

Because we accept a maximum of five dogs at a time, each dog receives individualized attention and a thoughtfully structured training plan.

Living & Care Environment

Every dog stays in our climate-controlled training building located directly beside our home. Each dog has their own spacious, comfortable indoor kennel where they rest and sleep overnight, giving them a calm, secure space to decompress between training sessions.

Outside of rest periods and overnight sleep, dogs are out with Aviva daily for:

  • Training sessions

  • Exercise and hikes

  • Enrichment and play

  • Appropriate social exposure

No dog spends the day sitting in a kennel. Rest is peaceful and structured, but the program is highly interactive and immersive.

Program Structure

No Minimum Stay – Recommended Stay: 3–4 Weeks

We understand every dog and family’s needs are different, so there’s no required minimum length of stay. That said, behaviour change requires consistency and repetition, so for meaningful, lasting results, we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks. Most dogs benefit from a 3–4 week immersive stay, depending on their training goals.

A typical day includes:

  • Structured exercise and nature/beach walks

  • Obedience and behaviour training sessions

  • Recall and leash skills practice

  • Field trips to town to practice skills in public

  • Calm behaviour and manners training

  • Rest periods in a spacious indoor kennel that reinforce regulation and relaxation

At the end of your dog’s stay, we complete an extensive owner transfer session where I guide you through:

  • Commands and communication tools

  • Handling techniques

  • Boundaries and structure needed at home

  • A plan to maintain your dog’s progress

We then have two more virtual follow-up sessions to be sure consistency is continued and you are supported in your follow-up practice.

Your consistency at home is essential to long-term success.

Common Training Goals

This program can address a variety of training and behaviour challenges, including:

  • Reactivity

  • Loose leash walking

  • Reliable recall

  • Jumping on people

  • Overstimulation

  • Social skills around other dogs

  • Resource guarding

More complex behaviour challenges may benefit from a longer stay.

Investment — Board & Train

Board & train stays are $200/day, which includes daily training, exercise, enrichment, and care.

Example: A 3-week stay (21 days) would be: 21 days × $200/day = $4,200

Pricing may vary depending on:

  • Length of stay
  • Behaviour goals
  • Training intensity required

Because this program is limited to five dogs at a time, spaces often book several weeks to several months in advance.

Transportation & Logistics

Owner drop-off on site preferred. We are located in Granite Bay on Quadra Island. This ensures we do not have to be away from the dogs we are caring for.

For clients travelling from elsewhere on Vancouver Island or the mainland, transportation or meet-up options may be available for an additional fee.

Logistics can be discussed during the application process.

Boarding Only

Not every dog needs a full training program — sometimes you just need a trusted, loving place for your dog to stay while you’re away. Our boarding-only option gives your dog the same immersive, enriched environment as our board & train guests, minus the structured training curriculum.

While boarding with us, your dog still enjoys:

  • Daily hikes and exercise on our private 80-acre property

  • Time at our secluded beach

  • Play, enrichment, and socialization (as appropriate)

  • Attentive, hands-on care from Aviva throughout the day

  • A spacious, comfortable indoor kennel for rest periods and overnight sleep

Boarding Rate: $100/night

Example: A 3-week stay (21 nights) would be: 21 nights × $100/night = $2,100

Please note: Because our board & train program is limited to five dogs at a time and requires focused attention, board & train clients are given priority booking. Boarding-only stays are accepted as space allows, so we recommend reaching out as early as possible to check availability.

Check-In & Check-Out

Check-in: any time after 1:00 PM Check-out: any time before 1:00 PM

If an earlier or later check-in or check-out is required, an additional fee of $15/hour applies.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does my dog need to stay?

No minimum stay required — for meaningful, lasting behaviour change, we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks

  • Will my dog be kenneled all day?

No. Rest periods are structured, but dogs spend the majority of the day training, exercising, and practicing new behaviours in real-life environments.

  • Will my dog be around other dogs, cats, or children?

Only if it is appropriate and safe. Social exposure is always intentional and structured based on each dog’s temperament and training needs. If you would prefer for your dog to NOT be around children and other dogs this is absolutely possible.
On the flipside, if your dog is a total softie, and would thrive in a family home environment, and IS safe around children and other dogs, then they can be completely integrated into our home.

  • Do you guarantee results?

No trainer can ethically guarantee behaviour outcomes. What I guarantee is professional handling, structured daily training, a safe, wonderful and loving experience for your dog and clear communication with your dog, and you. Long-term success depends on many factors, including environment, genetics, trauma, and continued consistency and handling skills at home.
